MONTHLYMANUAL EXPENSE TRACKINGA LITTLE MORE CLARITY.

THE MONTHLY FIELD NOTES /08

Your expenses, entered by you.

Monthly is a free manual expense tracker with a monthly planning structure. Record purchases, keep commitments visible and review what you entered. It does not connect to your bank or automatically collect your transactions.

YOUR MONEY. YOUR MONTH.EXPLORE AT YOUR PACE

A RECORD YOU CAN EXPLAIN

See a purchase in the context of your month

A list answers what you recorded. A monthly plan also puts income, bills and other commitments alongside everyday spending. Monthly calculates from those entries, not from a live account balance. The result is only as complete as the information you include.

This approach may fit if you want to choose what you record and do not need an automatic bank feed. If custom formulas matter more, compare a budgeting app with a spreadsheet before changing a system that already works.

START WITH ONE RECORD

Enter, check, review

  1. Choose one month and its currency

Start with a period you can check against your records. Enter the income and commitments you want to include. You do not need to reconstruct years of purchases before trying the workflow, and a blank month is not evidence that you have no expenses.

  2. Add an expense you recognize

For an everyday purchase, enter a daily expense with a clear name, amount and date. Use a category that helps you find it later. Keep fixed commitments and weekend reserves in their appropriate sections so the same cost does not appear twice.

  3. Check the record, then correct it if needed

Compare the entry with your receipt or statement. Edit an incorrect amount rather than adding another copy of the purchase. Removing a record changes your budget information; it does not reverse a payment or contact the merchant.

  4. Review the month and keep a copy

The summary changes with your entries. Check for missing bills before interpreting what remains. From Settings, you can export records in CSV or Excel and download a backup. Confirm synchronization before relying on another device to show the latest changes.

Not sure where a purchase belongs? Use the budget categories checklist to separate spending from transfers and avoid double counting. For the bigger picture, follow the monthly budget guide.

KNOW THE LIMITS

Manual does not mean local-only

Monthly uses an account and cloud services to store and synchronize your records. It needs a connection for sign-in and synchronization. Read the privacy policy before choosing what to enter; bank credentials are not needed for this workflow.

A compatible CSV can help import daily expenses, with a preview to review before confirming. This is not a promise to recognize every bank statement or recreate a spreadsheet's formulas. Check dates, currency and existing entries first.

Monthly does not move money, pay bills or automatically settle shared expenses between people. Nor does it guarantee savings. Explore the features and limits or the budgeting FAQ if you need a capability beyond manual recording.
